We employ sustainable farming practices at Nitta Ranch because we believe they not only align with our personal philosophy of how to live on this planet but because they make sense economically. This land is in our hands for only a short time. We must care for it and cherish it so we can pass this wonderful gift to the next generation.
Farming successfully is primarily dependent on the health of our soil and the key to healthy soil is compost. We use no synthetic fertilizers. Along with tons of compost, we employ the use of cover crops, mulch, crop rotation and low-till methods to insure the long-term vitality of our farm. We encourage beneficial insects and animals to partner with us to help keep pest populations in balance. While we do not currently have organic certification, we adhere to the organic practices specified for certification.
